Jyoti is a dedicated Registered Social Worker specializing in elder abuse at Age Concern Auckland. With a passion for bringing positive change and happiness to the lives of older adults, she has made significant and lasting contributions to the community. As a Founding Member of Disha NZ, Jyoti’s vision is centered on serving the community and fostering empowerment.
With over 20 years of community service in New Zealand, Jyoti’s commitment to supporting individuals and families is unwavering. She began her journey as a Children Development teacher, initiating programs that supported the well-being of children, youth, and families. Her leadership has brought about positive change in education, health, and overall well-being.
Recognizing the importance of women’s empowerment, Jyoti established a ladies’ group to provide a safe and supportive platform for women to connect, grow, and access resources for personal and professional development. This initiative has helped many women thrive and overcome challenges.
As a migrant herself, Jyoti understands the obstacles newcomers face. She has been actively involved in volunteering and advocacy to provide vital support and resources that help migrants settle and integrate into their new communities.
In her free time, Jyoti enjoys kitchen gardening, reflecting her love for nurturing and growth.
Jyoti also serves as a Justice of the Peace and has been honoured with the Local Hero Award by the Albert-Eden Local Board and the prestigious King’s Service Medal (KSM), a Royal Honour recognising her outstanding service to the Indian and South Asian communities in New Zealand.
Through Disha and her continued efforts, Jyoti remains committed to building a stronger, more inclusive, and empowered community.
